Beyond the blog: Designing scalable systems for higher ed content marketing

Date & Time

Tuesday, September 15, 2026, 3:45 PM - 4:30 PM CDT

For years, our institutional blog served as a catch-all publishing space: a scattered collection of standalone articles operating in silos with limited strategic impact. We produced content, but we did not structure it intentionally.

We saw a need to strengthen visibility in traditional search and establish institutional authority in emerging generative AI environments. That realization prompted a deliberate shift from publishing posts to designing a scalable content marketing system.

In 2025, the Marketing and Communication division aligned its priorities around content marketing. This focus created the momentum to build a structured model. We invited subject matter experts from across campus to partner with us in developing top-down, search-informed content that answers prospective students’ questions while supporting enrollment goals.

The result was a system built on topic clusters grounded in keyword research, pillar pages aligned with degree pathways and faculty-authored articles. The articles meet prospective students at the intersection of career exploration and program discovery.

By clarifying purpose and connecting content directly to institutional priorities, we increased faculty engagement, created more cohesive content and evolved our blog into an enrollment-aligned content ecosystem. Since implementing this model, we have seen measurable growth in organic visibility and sustained faculty participation.

In this session, members of Cedarville University’s Web Services team will share how they designed and implemented this approach. They will cover how they aligned strategy, subject matter expertise, repeatable workflows and performance measurement to sustain content marketing at scale.

Presented as a collaborative team effort representing content strategy and digital leadership, this session demonstrates the cross-functional alignment needed to move from isolated blog posts to an integrated, strategic content marketing system.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Transition from ad hoc blog publishing to a structured topic cluster model.
  • Align keyword research with academic priorities and career pathways.
  • Engage faculty as strategic contributors through clear value alignment.
  • Build repeatable workflows that support consistency and scale.
  • Define performance indicators that demonstrate institutional impact beyond pageviews.

You’ll leave with a practical, adaptable roadmap for implementing or refining a sustainable content marketing system in your own higher education context.

After this session, attendees will be able to:

  • Diagnose structural weaknesses in their current blog or content model
  • Design a topic cluster framework aligned to a specific program or initiative
  • Develop a repeatable workflow for SME-driven strategic content
  • Align content marketing efforts with enrollment and institutional priorities
  • Identify key performance indicators that demonstrate strategic impact
