Communicating the public good generated by federally-funded research at UAlbany

Date & Time

Tuesday, September 15, 2026, 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM CDT

In July 2025, the University at Albany’s Office of Communications & Marketing launched a fully redesigned Research at UAlbany landing page. The goals of this redesign included:

  • Highlighting the University’s unique research strengths
  • Demonstrating how UAlbany research directly benefits the public
  • Advocating for continued federal support for research

Previously, the Research at UAlbany landing page simply provided basic information and linked to other University webpages similarly available through the UAlbany website’s mega menu.

The new Research at UAlbany landing page clearly communicates the depth, breadth and value of UAlbany research to prospective students, prospective researchers, lawmakers, community members and the general public.

A team of web content, web design and research communication professionals collaborated on this project to craft an engaging landing page with a clear, meaningful narrative. Join this session to learn how you can achieve the same on your campus.

As the research funding landscape shifts, colleges and universities must adapt how they communicate their research successes to key audiences.

Specifically, institutions of higher education need to clearly demonstrate the public good their research creates, and why they need continued support to build on that work, to both lawmakers and taxpayers.

This session will explore how to translate dense research outcomes into real world impacts, explain industry jargon and policy changes in plain language, and humanize the researchers behind critical discoveries.

Attendees will learn how to develop a team of research, website and content marketing professionals and work together to craft a cohesive final product.
