No new trends: Challenging the fundamentals of institutions and their websites
Tuesday, October 20, 2026, 4:00 PM - 4:45 PM EDT
If we weren't afraid to hurt your feelings, what would we tell you about your website?
Higher ed doesn't need another trend to chase. We don't need another list of things to add to the homepage, another shiny tool or another prediction about what the website of the future will look like. Maybe the bigger opportunity is questioning some of the fundamentals we've accepted as best practice for years.
In this session, we're putting a few of higher ed's most deeply held website assumptions on the table and asking a simple question: What if we're wrong?
We'll challenge conventional thinking about how we organize, design, measure and make decisions, and look beyond higher ed for lessons about how people actually find answers, make choices and take action. Some of the takes might make you uncomfortable. Some you may completely disagree with. That's the point.
This isn't a session about what's new. It's about looking differently at what we've been doing all along.
Come ready to question the rules, defend a few of your own and leave with a different way of thinking about what your institution's website is actually supposed to do.
