A decentralized content management system has its benefits. Subject matter experts wholly own and manage their content, whenever and however they like. The independence and feelings of agency can help SMEs feel like they own their futures and plot their own course. But the drawbacks are numerous — duplicate content, a confusing mess of authoritative content, broken links, stale content and many missed opportunities.

A centralized content system can easily fix these problems, but it comes with a host of its own. Who organizes the pages? Who recognizes and manages authoritative content? How do you deal with all of the people that don't want to change?

The Web Content Team at the University of Mississippi is a new team in the Marketing and Communications Department. We've been tasked to bring the entire university community onto a centralized CMS with Cascade 8. Through agile planning, and tireless communication with our campus partners, we've successfully worked with hundreds of faculty and staff to bring thousands of pages onto our new system.

Our session will discuss our failures and victories and what we've learned along the way.
