Higher education is often challenged to create inclusive online learning environments, balancing technological advancements with the crucial personal impact on education. This session explores how a curated selection of AI tools (e.g., Ally’s alternative text suggestions) designed to streamline and enhance digital accessibility tasks can enhance digital accessibility, while underscoring the importance of human oversight in providing context and ensuring equitable learning experiences.
In this session, Darren Denham, CPACC, assistant director of digital accessibility at the University of Central Oklahoma, aims to bridge the gap between the rapid advancements in AI technology and the critical need for human-centered accessibility practices. The presentation will open with a brief overview of the current landscape of AI in digital accessibility with a curated selection of tools, highlighting both the opportunities and challenges this approach presents.
